An Ignatian meditation exercise
Find an appropriate place to sit or lay
Posture is import in starting a meditation exercise. When seated a straight back is more appropriate if seated for a period of time.
Think of your most favourite place …a beach….mountain top…a forest maybe.
When seated make yourself awere of your breathing…. concentrating on breathing in….out…. in…..out. Do this for awhile.
Imagine yourself travelling to your favourite place...by train...car... arrive
at the place, see the place …feel the wind…warmed of the sun on your body…….
Hear the sounds around you… the birds…insects. Sit there for a while
When you are ready imagine, your self travelling back to the place were you are now
Enjoy!
A Lectio Divina exercise
Find a comfortable place & think of you posture
A Lectio Divina exercise can be done with stories from the bible or other books
Read the 23rd Psalm read it through ones or twice, the second time slower.
The start at verse one, first word
The Lord…what does the word mean to you? Is that the word you want to use for the Divine how can you speak about ‘that what is greater then you’
The Lord is my shepherd
Shepherd …protection? Guide?
Take your time to ‘slow read’ this psalm
After awhile put your bible down and remind yourself what you reflected on.
If you are a praying person talk to God about these thoughts, otherwise...write down your reflections.
After a while just sit still and be….
